Debi expressed our passion for helping others so well that I don’t want to change this page. However, it has been causing quite a bit of confusion, so it is time for change. I have left the original page in tact below. Debi originally wrote this page in January 2010. DCBcrafts was growing well as a discount craft supply retailer, so much so that we were preparing to take a huge step out by opening a brick-and-mortar store. It had been Debi’s dream to open a store so that she could pass her love of crafting on to others. This dream was finally realized in July 2010, however, it was short-lived.
In the fall of 2010, Debi’s illness (that we now know to be a Mitochondrial Disease) took a severe and unexpected turn. She began losing consciousness regularly, soon she could no longer see to use the computer. By Thanksgiving, we began notifying loved ones to make arrangements to visit her because we didn’t expect her to make it to Christmas. She held on, but continued living on the verge of a coma until she finally ended up completely bed-ridden for about 6 weeks beginning Memorial Day. She had so little energy she couldn’t even left her hands. During this time I couldn’t leave her side, so we made the difficult decision to close the store. We kept the website going, but had to close off lots of product that had become very out-of-date.
We needed some way to make a living, and we had a few people who were relying on us to by wholesale for them. We knew more than ever that there was a need to fill. People whose craft has become more than a hobby need cost effective access to supplies. So we started looking at how we could make DCBcrafts work even with Debi’s illness. The result is the DCBcrafts Wholesale Purchasing Club. We buy wholesale for you! This gives you access to your craft supplies at wholesale prices.
Our Original About Page…
Hello!
We are so glad you decided to shop with us today. We hope you find reasonable prices along with variety.
We are a husband and wife and dog team. My name is Debi and if you email, I am probably the one who responds. My husband Chet works on the technical side. Our dog Barnabas inspects things…boxes, cards etc. He is actually my helper dog and he follows me around. He is a golden retriever named Barnabas. Chet and I met at college Truman State University. We were both math majors (don’t hate us). We have been married for 17 years on Feb 13. We are together pretty much 24/7…so we don’t like to be a part from each other much.
I have several nerve and muscle diseases which keep me from working outside the home. But I love to craft! And we found out that many places charge over MSRP…we decided to open an affordable craft website. We launched May 10, 2007. It gives me a job and shoppers a break. Our regular prices are 10%-20% BELOW MSRP. Plus, if you have shopped with us you know we have amazing sales. We make every effort to get your order out to you quickly but sometimes we do need to order and appreciate your patience. If you are in need of something quickly please let us know and we will do EVERYTHING possible to get it to you.
Another goal of ours is to provide assistance to widows and children. We donate quite a portion of proceeds to children’s hospitals, St Jude, MDA…just to name a few. If you have a favorite charity that you would like your proceeds to go to…please let us know.
I am a 33 year childhood cancer survivor. So I know it stinks to be ill as a child. We hope to provide a little comfort and hope to these children and their families.
Please visit our Blog regularly as I post Blog only specials along with telling about the latest sales.
